news story

the who- girls lax, the what-girls lax, the where-evhs, the when- last season and this season,

The number of girls playing lacrosse has been growing in popularity in the country and at Eastview High School. Compared to last season, you wouldn't even recognize the team.

This year, the Eastview High School girls lacrosse team has many differences. "We have a lot of younger girls on the team so we have a different chemistry. We really wanted to make sure that JV didn't feel like a different team and that we all work together." Kelly Schueler states.

One main difference for Hanna was that "We also have an 8th grader on the team.".  Megan. Brought up from middle school and playing with the "big dogs", she is an eight grader playing, and starting on varsity. This is the first year that the girls Eastview girls lacrosse has ever had a student who was not from high school and strait from eighth grade.

Another huge difference this year compared to last year is the amount of seniors playing on the team. Last year, there were nine juniors who would have been playing this year but unfortunetely there is less than that this year. Although it may seem like the team dynamics might be thrown off a little from this, the season is going better than last year. This year there has been a lot more team chemistry compared to last year.  Kelly Schueler states “We have a lot of younger girls on the team so we have a different chemistry. We really wanted to make sure that Junior Varsity did not  feel like a different team and that they work together.". As a team this year, this is the biggest difference. Last year, the teams were like two separate programs. Now this year, it is a more integrated team of JV and Varsity.

The team has also done a few special things to boost up their team chemistry this season. This season the girls are spending more time together off the field. Hanna Lindner states that "We are doing a lot of team bonding stuff like having spaghetti dinners at someones house the night before a game.". When I asked Kelly, she said that "We're having sleep-overs and team things to strengthen our chemistry outside of practices.".

Building and creating this stronger chemistry has really helped improve the team overall. At "...practice we're having both defence and offense and we're making up new drills and plays that we have not done before." All this team building and chemistry bonding seems to have an affect on the overall game of the players. When I asked my Mother how different the team looked compared to last year she said that "It looks like a whole new team. By this time last year you guys have lost however many games you have played and this year you've already won three games!" Stricken by this intense statement by my mother, I mentally concluded that yes, by far compared to last year, this team is so much better. Not only is it better, the team actually has chemistry this year.

Last year lets say that the team was hectic, full of groups, ball-hogs, and filled with that one B word that we call female dogs. Thankfully, this year there is chemistry within the Varsity and JV team is so much stronger and is on the road to success through all the hard work at practice as well as at games.
