Definition:
Define “Journalism” in 1-3 sentences.
-telling of current events that are news worthy thru writing (news paper, magazine, Internet)


List and describe the six criteria of newsworthiness.

1. timeliness- recent, up to date, current. weather, sports,

2. prominence- we care about important people. royal wedding, Obama getting a dog

3. proximity- care about news that's close to us. weather, traffic, house fires

4. significance- the bigger the event and the more people that are impacted the more important it is. metro dome, japan earthquake, 9/11.

5. unasualness- we care about things that don't happen often. murders, house fires,

6. human interest- feel good stories, uplifting. new baby dolphin born at zoo,




What are the advantages of print journalism?
1. stories go much more into detail

2. choose the stories you want to read and how much

3. access it with you

What are the advantages of broadcast journalism?

1. more timely than print

2. visual and audio = more powerful

3. ability to multitask


Why has online journalism (convergent media) become so popular?
- very timely, Internet had become more popular, faster, updated faster, make decisions on where to go, revolutionizing news.
